What a laptop retrieval service does
When someone leaves, the company laptop is often at their home, not on their desk. A laptop retrieval service gets it back for you: it sends the employee the packaging and a prepaid label, prompts them to return it, and tracks the parcel back to an address you choose. You don’t buy boxes, arrange postage or chase a former colleague for weeks.
Some providers are global device platforms that can also store, wipe and redeploy equipment. We do one job: get company laptops and monitors back from people in the UK, quickly and without fuss.
How our laptop retrieval works
- You order a kit. Give us your employee’s address and the address the laptop should come back to. No account needed.
- We send the box. It’s dispatched within one business day by Royal Mail Tracked 24, and UK delivery typically takes 1–2 days. Orders placed before 2pm go out the next business day.
- We email your employee. They get instructions, then reminders if the laptop hasn’t been posted.
- They post it back. They pack the laptop and charger, stick on the prepaid label (no printer needed) and drop it at a Post Office or Royal Mail location, or book a Royal Mail collection.
- You track it home. You get tracking updates by email until the laptop arrives.
What’s in the kit
Laptop return kit: a padded laptop box that fits laptops up to 16 inches plus the charger, a prepaid self-stick return label, tape and packing instructions. Emails and reminders to your employee and tracking updates to you are included.
Monitor return kit: a double-walled box that fits monitors up to 24 inches plus the charger and stand, bubble wrap, tape and a prepaid label.
Optional transit insurance is available, tiered up to £2,500 for a laptop and £2,000 for a monitor.
Is TechRecover the right kind of service for you?
We’re a good fit if you’re a UK business with staff working from home or in hybrid roles, and you want laptops back without a contract or a platform to learn. You can use us once for a single leaver. If you have returns every month, we offer invoicing, accept purchase orders and give volume discounts, and customers doing 10 or more returns a month get a dedicated account contact. Our laptop return service for IT departments has the details for larger teams.
A different kind of service will suit you better if:
- Your people are outside the UK. We only work with UK addresses, so international teams need a provider with global coverage.
- You want wiping, storage or redeployment handled for you. We return the laptop to you; we don’t process it. Some device lifecycle platforms offer that.
- The employee can simply hand it back. If they live nearby or are coming into the office on their last day, collecting it in person costs nothing. Our comparison of a prepaid laptop return kit vs doing it yourself sets out when DIY makes sense.
Why UK businesses use TechRecover
- Used by 150+ UK companies, and 98% of laptops are returned within 7 days.
- Nothing for the employee to find or print. The box, tape and self-stick label are all in the kit.
- No sign-up, no subscription. You pay per return, and the price shown is the full price.
- Help when you need it. We reply to support emails within 4 business hours.
Retrieval works best as a routine step. Add it to your employee offboarding checklist for laptop and equipment returns so the kit is ordered as soon as you know someone’s leaving date. If a laptop is already overdue, read what to do if an employee doesn’t return a company laptop.
